Completed in late 2021, the DX Architects Studio serves as a testament to preserving architectural heritage while adapting it for contemporary use. Located in the heart of Richmond, our studio has been envisioned to breathe new life into the former corner store while paying homage to its historical context.
Driven by the desire to respect the site’s heritage, the DX Architects team worked together to meticulously restore the original structure, retaining its architectural character, and refurbishing the key ornamental elements of the façade. To put a contemporary touch on the building, steel-framed windows and an inset entry way have been added to seamlessly blend the past with the present.
The rear addition has been thoughtfully designed to provide clear separation between old and new, contrasting the extension through its dark exterior expressed brickwork pattern to provide a modern play on the traditional building techniques of the original building.
Internally, open-plan office spaces and naturally lit corridors establish a fluid connection between old and new, featuring exposed trusses and full height glazing on both the ground and first floors.
This commercial project exemplifies our dedication to preserving architectural heritage while modernising the space to meet contemporary standards, resulting in a vibrant, creative hub for the DX Architects team.
