This two story Hawthorn renovation involved an upgrade to the existing heritage home and incorporated a new contemporary, double-story addition to the rear of the home. The design of this renovation project retained the heritage appeal of the residence, while incorporating the modern features of practical living – a new open plan kitchen, living and dining area.
The Hawthorn renovation building works included an interesting screw pile footing system. Due to the poor soil type of the site the structural engineer developed a screw pile footings system with approximate 10m deep steel screws which have been piled into the earth, and then finished with a concrete pile caps and a steel stump footing. This enabled a very solid base for the house to support the new double story addition.
