It retains the heritage appeal of the residence while incorporating the modern features of practical living. The building design responds to the inner city context, and features a number of architectural design elements.

The design of this renovation opens up the existing residence, creating a modern light-filled living zone. The new living space is located to the rear of the property, and opens onto an external undercover deck, blurring the distinction between the inside and outside spaces.

Fitzroy Commercial
Working sensitively within the heritage controls which cover the former Fitzroy Post Office building in Brunswick Street Fitzroy, a new retail tenancy was subdivided from the existing building. The new tenancy fronts Johnston Street and incorporates an outdoor seating area.

Richmond Residence
The external wall cladding of the master bedroom notionally buckles to reveal a large window. Solar control is provided with large feature operable louver shutters which provide both screening from the westerly sun, and a device to comply with overlooking requirements.

Cubby House
This small project in inner city back yard creates a play area for young children complete with ladder, slide and cubby house. The random fixing of the timber decking to the frame creates windows, doors and gaps for looking through. The cubby also combines a storage area, and takes on the form of a landscaping feature wall at the rear of the yard.

The alterations & additions to this St Kilda house create a light filled flexible kitchen and living space at the rear of the existing dwelling. Bi-fold panel windows allow the kitchen to be opened to the rear decking when entertaining.

An open plan kitchen/ living room addition at the rear of a single fronted inner city dwelling. Working within tight planning requirements, building volume in the living area is created with a cathedral ceiling with high-light windows.
